Hi,
I have made OSS/Free version 3.8o for Linux 2.1.57 (and later?) available
from ftp://ftp.4front-tech.com/ossfree (see
http://www.4front-tech.com/ossfree/alpha.html for a list of mirrors).
This version contains some new stuff that has earlier beeen available only
in the commercial OSS. Probably the most interesting thing is the SoftOSS
wave table engine (timidity like MIDI player implemented in the kernel).
The other new thing is support for Yamaha OPL3-SA1 (non-PnP) audio chip.
This version is some kind of intermediate one. I will probably release
another version with some minor fixes within few weeks (at least the AWE
driver will be updated). After that I will send the latest driver to Linus
for inclusion to the kernel distribution. Also after that development of
OSS/Free will be done in a source tree that is separate from the
commercial OSS. This means that I will start accepting patches that have
earlier conflicted with OSS for other operating systems. However this
doesn't mean that I will now accept any patches sent to me (far from it).
It just means that OSS/Free will in future be maintained just like couple
of years ago.
Please wait until the "final" version is included in the kernel source
tree before starting to send me any new patches. Also please test out this
version. I don't have enough resources (machines and time) to test
OSS/Free releases very throughly.
